Product Launch Videos:
What Makes One Work for B2B

What a launch video needs, who should present it, how to make one, and real launches we have filmed.

Explainer #1 from the nine-video launch suite I presented for CostGuard, delivered inside seven days.

A product launch video announces something new and shows it working, with a person explaining what it changes for the buyer. In B2B, the best ones do three things: say the problem in the buyer's words, show the product solving it on screen, and give one clear next step. It is one part of product video for B2B, alongside explainers and demos.

What works

What Makes a Good Product Launch Video?

Buyers have seen a lot of generated video this year. What stands out at a launch now is a real person who believes in the product, with the product itself on screen.

People are going more towards a dual aspect: a more human element, and usually it's the founder. They're thinking more about launch videos these days.
Eric Presnall, on how launch videos are changing

One message. A launch video carries one idea. Everything else goes in the explainers that follow it.

The product, working. Show the screen, the feature or the result, not a list of benefits read over stock footage.

A launch is a suite. One overview, a few short explainers, and ads cut from the same shoot, so the face and the message match everywhere a buyer meets them.

Who presents

Should a Launch Video Include a Presenter or Just the Product?

Include a person. The founder, if they have the time and the energy: buyers increasingly want to hear it straight from the source. When the founder can't, a dedicated presenter carries it, and the founder can still appear for the part only they can say.

Product-only videos have their place in a feature tour or a help center. At a launch, a person standing behind the product is what makes a new name feel established. The mix that works is the person and the platform together: the presenter talking, the product on screen beside them.

The process

How to Make a Product Launch Video

StepWhat to do
1. Name the changeOne sentence on what is new and who it is for. If you can't write it, the video can't say it.
2. Script itProblem, product, proof, next step. Start from the video script templates.
3. Plan the suiteThe overview, the explainers and the ad cuts, written together so the message matches.
4. Film it in one shootOne presenter, one session, every script. It keeps the look identical and the cost down.
5. Cut for each channelThe website and sales emails get the full cut. LinkedIn and paid social get the shorter lengths and ratios they need.

One I made

Nine Launch Videos in Under Seven Days

CostGuard had a launch date and no launch videos. It was rolling out a new restoration service to insurance professionals, property managers and adjusters, an audience that expects a calm, credible voice. A webcam recording would have undercut the brand on day one.

I scripted all nine videos against the launch messaging, with Zac Copper's direction, and filmed them in one shoot: a hero overview, service explainers and launch ads. The suite was delivered in under seven days, an estimated $12,000+ in production costs saved, and nobody on the team had to learn video on a deadline.

Zac's words: "We were able to launch with videos that looked like we'd spent months and a huge budget on them, but we didn't."

Questions

Launch Video Questions

How long should a product launch video be?

Long enough for one message. Ours have run from 47 seconds (Enlightened's PrepMate launch) to about three minutes (CostGuard's first explainer), with shorter cuts for ads and social.

How do I write a product launch video script?

Lead with the problem the launch solves, show the product solving it, add one piece of proof, and end on one action. Our video script templates give you the format and the word budget.

Should our CEO be in the launch video?

Yes, when they have the time and the energy for it. Buyers increasingly want to hear it from the founder. If they don't, a dedicated presenter can carry it, and the CEO can still appear for the part only they can say.

Who makes product launch videos?

We do, with a real presenter on camera. See product video production for overview and launch videos.
