Explainer Video

Explainer Video Production for SaaS,
With a Real Presenter

Explainer video production with a real person on screen, not a cartoon or an AI avatar. We write the script, a dedicated presenter explains your product on camera and stands behind the claim, and we edit it to your brand. Nobody on your team goes on camera. Showing the product itself? What it is

An explainer answers
one question properly.

An explainer takes something your buyer doesn't understand and leaves them understanding it. Usually 60 to 180 seconds. Usually the first real explanation a prospect gets after an ad or a search.

Most explainers fail because they summarize the product instead of answering a question. A summary lists what exists. An answer starts where the confusion is, resolves it, and stops.

There are two schools. Animated explainers use motion graphics and voiceover. Presenter-led explainers put a person on camera, with graphics in support. Both work, for different buyers. Explainers are one part of our B2B video production, next to product videos and the video spokesperson service.

Product, concept,
and category explainers.

Three different confusions to resolve, three different scripts.

PProduct

What it does and why it matters

The 60 to 120 second version a buyer can follow without a demo. Screen capture underneath. A presenter on top, carrying the argument and deciding what to skip.

  • Scripted from your positioning
  • Product UI built in
  • Ready for site, ads and sales email
CConcept

The idea before the product

When the problem has to land before the solution makes sense. A person beats animation here, because the viewer is judging whether to trust the framing.

  • Problem-first structure
  • Story over features
  • Built for cold audiences
KCategory

When you're creating the category

If buyers have no name for what you do, the explainer has to teach before it sells. Longer, education-led, carried by a named human with a track record.

  • Education-led script
  • Named presenter
  • Repurposable into a series
Animated or presenter-led

An honest comparison,
including where we lose.

Animation wins in some situations. Abstract infrastructure with nothing to show. A process that doesn't physically exist. An illustration-led brand. One video localized into nine languages on a budget. In those cases, animation is the better call and we're the wrong studio.

A presenter wins when trust is the bottleneck, not comprehension. High-consideration B2B purchases. Crowded categories where every claim sounds the same. Any deal where the buyer is quietly asking who's behind this. A face answers that. A cartoon can't.

Cost behaves differently too. Animation is usually priced per second of motion, so runtime drives the bill. A presenter-led video is captured in a shoot, so extra runtime adds far less. Past about 90 seconds, the math often flips.

How it runs

Question first, script second.

1. Find the question

One question starts every project: what number is this video supposed to move? Then we find what your viewer doesn't understand yet. That's the script.

2. Script

Our writers answer that question and stop. You approve every word before anything is filmed.

3. Film and build

I film in studio. Graphics and product capture get built around the argument, not sprinkled on top.

4. Deliver

Edited, captioned, ready to publish. Two revision rounds included, and we rework until it matches the brief you approved.

Length and placement

60 to 90 seconds,
almost always.

On a homepage or product page, 60 to 90 seconds is the working range. The viewer hasn't committed to anything, and the video is competing with the rest of the page.

Longer works when the viewer went looking for the explanation: a resources page, a sales follow-up, a search for a specific question. There, three to five minutes is fine.

The common mistake is one long explainer doing three jobs. A short site version plus a longer deep-dive beats the compromise, and both come from the same shoot.

Questions

Explainer video questions, answered

Who will my spokesperson be?

Usually me, Eric Presnall. VideoRep is built around me as the lead spokesperson. If your category, style or schedule calls for a different face, I cast from a small roster of presenters I trust. Either way, you meet and approve your spokesperson before you sign, and the face is named in the agreement.

Do you make animated explainer videos?

Not as the main event. We use motion graphics and screen capture to support the presenter, but every video is built around a real person on camera. Want a fully animated explainer with no human in it? We're the wrong studio, and I'll say so on the first call.

When is animation actually the better choice?

When there's nothing visual to show, when the process you need to show doesn't physically exist, when your brand is illustration-led, or when you need cheap versions in many languages. Those are real advantages. If that's you, we'll point you elsewhere.

What does an explainer video cost?

Every video is priced by its length and finish, never by type. I share exact pricing on the fit call. For market ranges and the six things that move any quote, read our explainer video cost guide.

Why not an AI avatar?

A face works because the viewer believes someone stands behind the claim. A synthetic presenter keeps the format and removes exactly that. AI in our process? In the edit bay, yes. On screen, never.

How long does one take?

Days, not weeks. The schedule is agreed on the fit call, before we start. OtherWeb had two videos delivered in days. A crypto trading platform got 33 finished videos in 8 weeks.

We're not based in the US. Does that matter?

No. We work fully remote with teams in the US, the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. I'm American, so US buyers hear a native accent. OptiMonk, a Hungary-headquartered platform, used 30+ presenter-led videos for its U.S. expansion.
